History

The California roll was invented by Japanese chef Ichiro Mashita in Los Angeles in the 1960s. He replaced raw fish with crab and avocado for American customers. The nori was hidden inside — creating the first inside-out roll.

Ingredients

Sushi rice200g
Nori3 sheets
Crab sticks150g
Cucumber1 pc
Tobiko (roe)50g
Rice vinegar2 tbsp

Preparation

1Cook the rice and season with vinegar.
2Place nori, spread rice, flip over.
3Coat the rice with tobiko.
4Lay out crab, avocado, and cucumber.
5Roll using a bamboo mat.
6Cut into 8 pieces.
