History

Pizza Margherita is named after Queen Margherita of Savoy. In 1889, pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito created a pizza in the colors of the Italian flag: tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. The simplest and most classic pizza.

Ingredients

Pizza dough250g
Tomato sauce100g
Fresh basil6 leaves
Olive oil1 tbsp

Preparation

1Roll out the dough thinly.
2Spread with tomato sauce.
3Distribute the mozzarella (tear by hand or slice).
4Bake at 250°C for 7-8 minutes.
5Remove, add fresh basil, and drizzle with oil.

Tips

Add the basil after baking — otherwise it will burn.
